Behind the Scenes of “iHead”

Over the last ten months, I have been working on a new stage act that is unique in its form worldwide. It is the most elaborate act I have ever developed as an iPad magician and it is part of my Media Magic program. The new act is called “iHead” and is basically a digital puppet show. I have staged a duel with my own 3D-animated alter ego. We take it in turns to set each other tasks from everyday professional life and the audience gets to see live which of us is ahead – my analog self or my digital image.

I work intensively on the interface between digital technology and stage art. It is clear to me that each of us already has a digital self. The personal data that we disclose online every day creates an image of ourselves that is algorithmically processed, evaluated and reused in digital spaces. The central question that I raise with “iHead” is therefore: do we want to be the drivers of this development or the designers? I think it’s time to actively engage with our own digital twin.

From the idea to the premiere

I had the first ideas for “iHead” in November. This was followed by months of intensive work, countless tests, adjustments and creative decisions. As an iPad wizard, I put together a team that was perfectly suited to this challenge. A 3D generalist took care of the animation and design of my digital alter ego. A software developer modified the iPad so that it could interact live with the animation in the show. And props were built in a specialized workshop to meet the visual and technical requirements.

The premiere finally took place in August. The feedback was overwhelming. As a tablet magician, it was important to me not only to impress technically, but above all to tell a story that reaches people. The connection between the real me and the digital me was both fascinating and thought-provoking for many viewers.

iHead is my most challenging act as a media magician to date

With “iHead” I have broken new ground as an iPad magician. It is an act that merges the magic of theater with the world of digital animation. No trick stands alone, but is embedded in a continuous story that reflects the reality of our modern lives. The central idea that our digital self has long since become an independent part of our identity runs through every scene. The constant switching between me and my 3D self not only adds pace to the show, but also encourages reflection.

If you have not yet seen the new act live, I cordially invite you. I will be presenting a completely new form of stage illusion that combines technology, humor and depth. I would be delighted if you too would engage with your digital self in a new way, perhaps starting with some inspiration in my show.
